2000 XJR trans problem
My shift cable recently disengaged but I was told by my local jaguar dealer that I could drive the car as long as I held the shifter in drive, which had been working until I tried to leave work today. I got in my car put it in drive and held the shifter as instructed and it would not engage drive at all it would not rev or move forward but it still goes into reverse just fine. No codes on the dash or anything new it does read restricted performance but it has read that since the cable has been loose. Has the cable just broken or? Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.
that sounds exactly like how my nightmare started, ended up a hard lesson with big bill.
hopeful it was just a minor issue with he shifter , if you have a chance to open it up and see if the any part of the assembly is breaking in piece and the shifter disc, solenoid.
then check the shifter cable as you mentioned.
in my case, I chose to ignore the issue and eventually, my car threw out all the code like P1705,
I ended up to replacing the entire shifter assembly, shifter cable and the transmission electrical plate inside of the transmission.
