2001 XJR - Replacement Fuel Pumps Nightmare
Dear All,
My pumps went out last year - both at the same time. I had them replaced - the garage used after market parts. Needless to say after a week or so of driving they became very noisy. They replaced them in April - same thing happened again. I just had her back in with OEM pumps put in and she is again starting to make a high pitched noise. This is baffling me and I'm unsure of what to do next. Do I go to the dealership and hope they can fix this issue? The OEM pumps were manufactured in Hungary - so the box said anyway. I can't drive people around as the noise in the back is just ridiculous.
Anyone with help or advice please discuss. All other parts in the tank were replaced - harness etc. Does the dealership have different pumps??
Thanks All - Steve - XJR - 125 miles.

Describe "very noisy".
There are a number of things that come to mind and they would all sound different.
- outlet hose has popped off
- pump insulation never installed
- loose bracket fastener
- fuel filter clogged
- inlet screens clogged
- pressure regulator is keeping return circuit open at all times
Most aftermarket pumps are capable of doing the job without too much drama.
The aftermarket Denso are probably better made than the original version Walbro.

Thanks for the response PLUMS.
This issue is sapping my will to live. The noise is like a high pitched whine - very audible. The filter was replaced last year and the harness etc inside the tank also. Is there some kind of insulation supposed to go between the seat and the tank? Not sure about the insulation around the pump itself - will have to ask the garage on that one.

My last pair , put in a year ago, where from S. Korea and have been awesome. I bought them for $14.00 each on ebay. I bought them with the idea, if the fail, they fail, but they have performed flawlessly. quiet and good pressure/performance. And a lifetime warranty...lol
I'm with others. Look for some other cause of the issue before more pumps.

Fuel pumps, how fun.
I found my self with both pumps frozen after filling with fuel. Of coarse it was a Saturday night about 250 miles from home. I called and had one of my mechanics bring a service truck and any electric fuel pump he could come up with.
After 4 hours of changing the pumps to a single walbro 150 lph the car ran great and I made it home. I then changed it out to duel denso replacment pumps. One of them was frozen solid in less than 1000 miles. I changed them again with a pair from a crash car with low miles. 2200 miles this time. I replaced the with 2 walbro 150's and haven't had any problems.
The fuel regulator will cause the pumps to squeal. You might not notice it in your performance, and it will reduce the life of the pumps.
Good luck
