Default 2001 XJR suspension noise

I am getting a noise from my front susspension. It is a thumping sound that sounds like dribbling a basketball very fast two or three times. This does not seem to effect ride quality. I live on a cobblestone street and thats where you notice it the most. Any ideas?

Upper or lower shock bushes, anti roll bar bushes or end links.

Are these repairs costly or difficult?

My shocks are only two years old (6,000 miles). I try to dp my own repairs unless it requires special tools.

If the shocks are new, then the lower bushings are new so you should be able to rule those out.

The upper mounts would likely show signs of flaking etc. if they are going bad, but may not. If they look like they are disintegrating then order some new ones online; pretty darn easy to replace yourself.

Anti-roll bar bushings and end links are fairly inexpensive online also, and also pretty easy to replace yourself.

The bushings for the front upper shock mounts, the front sway bars and new sway bar links cost about $150 or less, total.

Do the rear sway bar bushings and links too while you are at it.

I did all the above and it made my 76K mile XJR drive like new.

The install is easy if you have jackstands and a few tools. The front sway bar is quite a bit larger and heavier than the rear though.

There are several "how to" threads on all of the above.

Thanks again! I did find a how-to video for the sway bars and it seems do-able. I would imagine a little WD40 the day before might help.

It is really quite easy, just don't drop the heavy front sway bar on your head, lol!

And torque everything to specs.
