2002 Xj8 wrong valve timing ??
........Sorry, I can't make this story short...... Here it goes: I bought my 2002 xj8 with dead engine(109 K miles), the guy who sold it to me thought the timing chain was bad. when I opened the chian cover, I found that all the chains were in great shape, but upper tensioners, and chain guides were cracked, I got exited, and opened the chains, and guides, and tensioners without marking anything, nor using the right locking tools. then I bought all 4 tensioners, guides, and the special locking tools, and followed on line "PDF" inatructions on how to replace tensioners. when I put everything toghether, the engine rolles over, but deos not come on. I am not sure if the engine has bent valves, or I messed up the valve timing. Is there any way of timing the engine by piston positions??
Please help if you are familiar with this kind job.
Thanks.
Ramin.

You know, Ramin, you might read the archives a little more and find references to the tools and methods used to set the timing. Make sure thats what you did. And yes, iyou might have bent valves. Or a host of other problems. Check compression, fuel and spark. Thatswhat make an engine go.
