So what I thought was oil was actually transmission fluid( but I also have a oil leak soo) its coming out of the filter pretty fast but I have not driven in mostly becuse it smelled hot
ive got 2 questions can you DIY it or should I take it somewhere
what should it cost at a local mechanic who sold the car to me and did some service in the past

He should be intimately familiar with the car if he was the PO. It can't hurt to ask, because unless you ask you won't know and unless you ask more than one person, you won't know. I can't say what the cost would be, they obviously need to drop the trans to do the work. It kind of sucks, a $10 part and a couple hundred $ labor charge. But then again, your getting the oil leak taken care of also.
