Default 2003 xjr

I have one very close to me and it has 37k miles on it, it is very clean with very little scratches here and there, however the price is 16800 and it seems like a good deal, i am keeping my str, just dont want to pass up a good deal, you know?

Anyway i did notice when looking at it today that the heat only comes out hot when it is put on HI . It wont mix the air for lets say 79 degrees.

Is this a common thing?? something that i can do on my own?? just looking for some heads up on it.

There is a small electric pump in the heater hose mess between the engine and the firewall. If it is not running the water circulation is less than adequate to heat the interior. A real bear to replace.

Here is where my knowledge ends and am now speaking generically. The temp sensor advises the Climate Control Module to regulate the air temp by moving a 'blend' door between the AC cold air and the warm air from the heater core. Sticking blend doors are a common problem across many cars. Both an Expedition and a Town Car of mine currently have that problem. Have to run the temp to max and then to min then to desired to get it to regulate properly.

In either case, or others, a great price on a car in excellent condition should not be ignored over a heat issue.

Comparatively, cheap to fix.

On my 1999 XJR I rebuilt the Electric Aux Water Pump (actually just replaced the brushes and cleaned/greased). Pretty easy to access on mine, took about 5-10 mins to remove, and no scuffed knuckles. Not sure about the '03. In my case, it was the Aux Pump that caused the issue you describe, although, I've also heard of the sticking diverter valve for the hot water to go through the heater core. Again, that is a really easy access job for the '99.

Also, the diverter valve is easy to diagnose. Just bypass it with a hose coupler. If you have full time heat, you know that was the issue.

PS: If the Aux Pump needs replacement, it's fairly expensive. $300-400 for parts.
