3rd Brake Light has come off.

Just tried the rear view mirror fixing pads. Didn't work. The hi level brake light unit is just too heavy for them. For the moment, I have a folded scarf jammed under the unit supporting it, whilst the fixing pads stop it moving sideways as they still have a bit of sticky to them.
The scarf matches the bodywork, looks rather nice in that position and so unless sharp cornering moves it, this will be my solution!
The scarf was never used as such anyway...

Update. First repair lasted about 2-3 days before falling off again. Redid the repair, using same glue, but added a drop of glue to the tips of the rubber bushes, and repositioned the holder. Has now been in place almost 2 weeks, including a week long trip to UK mainland, and still in place. Here's hoping !!

As it happens, neither did the scarf method! A good trip out pushing the car round bends and the light slid sideways...the pads could not even keep it from doing this!
I have now used araldite and that seems to be holding. Done several trips and all is well. I have left my folded scarf underneath as "moral" support!
When using the araldite, I covered the back of the metal plates that stick to the window with sellotape, so that the araldite could not squeeze through the little holes and adhere to the light unit and then put the plates onto the light unit after applying glue. I then held the whole light unit tight to the window for the 6 minutes they recommend. That way there is no problem with adhering the whole unit accidentally and not being able to remove it from its fixings to replace a bulb, nor is there a problem in getting the plates in the correct position.

After the usual adhesives (Araldite, Superglue etc.) all failed to retain my metal backlight mounting pads for longer than a few days, I tried Shoe Goo and found it to be an effective solution, probably because it remains flexible and resists heat. It cures quickly and should be easier to remove if necessary.

Hey guys,
I ordered a brand new high brake light unit; it really looks great. But, it's still in the box because I have been procrastinating the installation. I removed the back cover from the old one and the connection inside is soldered (sp?). The new one has an easy disconnect plug. If the old one had the plug installation would be a snap, but no.
If I remove the parcel shelf is there going to be a connector under there so I don't have to splice wires? If there is no connector then I can save the trouble of removing the shelf and just splice where the wires come out.
Thanks...
Edit-- I was mistaken, the new brake light assembly is ALSO soldered inside, so the only connector is the one that would go below the parcel shelf, if there is even one down there...

Ok, so I went ahead and spliced the wires which was remarkably easy. The new brake light looks great. I used Gorilla epoxy but I'm not optimistic it will hold. I will give it a few more hours to dry and if it's not doing the job I'll try some of the other adhesive products suggested in this thread. I had the Gorilla epoxy in my drawer already so I gave it a shot.

Not only had mine fallen off the outer casing had broken into 2 pieces. The previous owner did a very bad glue job to the break and then velcroed a piece of wood to the underside to keep it propped up. I bought a brand new unit and went to a local auto glass shop to adhere it. It took the guy 3 tries to get the metal clamps adhered to the window the right distance so the unit would slide on. The previous owner had spliced the wires instead of removing everything to get to the plug. So spliced the new unit into place. Only 2 wires, a black and a red, no way to mix them up. My issue is that it is installed and looks great but doesn't actually work! Brand new brand unit so I can't believe the bulbs are dead. Not sure what is wrong. Fortunately it's not illegal to have a non functioning 3rd brake light. And before you say perhaps the wires are loose or disattached under the shelf, the old unit was broken but worked so wires down below were functioning.

Has anyone had any issues with a single third brake light? One of the lights does not work or is intermittent. Its has to be a problem pre-third brake light wire connector because i swapped the brake light unit and the issue still exists for the new unit. Any ideas on where to trouble shoot?
Thanks
