Default 98 lug nuts...

Hi guys-
I'm being told by firestone that the lug nuts on my '98 XJ8 are single use.
And, that the price for new ones is above $200.
Are there after market brands that are reusable?
single use lug nuts seems crazy to me.

I believe that's bad info, they aren't as robust as single piece lug nuts but they should be reusable. Several of the lug nuts on my 99 had the washers come loose which is kind of a pain to deal with but you still don't have to throw them away. I got a handful of replacements from one of the BB sponsors, sng barret for a reasonable price and replaced the ones that the washers looked loose on or had already fallen apart. I think hand tools extend the life of these parts, impacts can be pretty tough on the sheet metal covers. Some times it's tough to find a shop that wants to make adjustments for hardware though...

Not single use but the covers can become damaged if you try to wrench them off with the socket only halfway on the nut, making them useless (a socket will no longer fit on a deformed wheel nut cover). I purchased Eurospare part #CCC007028 replacement nuts and they work perfectly. Pricey though, about $10 per nut ($8 per nut if you buy an entire new set of 20).

SINGLE USE LUG NUTS??????????

I worked at the Jaguar dealer for YEARS but I never got the memo.
We always just reinstalled the original ones.

Maybe the guys at Firestone are more informed than the dealer trained techs?????

Did they remove the covers and then couldn't fit them back on? If that's what happened, then they owe you a new set of lug nuts, not the other way around!

Sounds like they broke your lug nuts and want you to pay for them

This reminds me of when a tyre shop tried to tell a friend of mine that she needed new wheels when she bought new tyres, trying to fool her and make money off her. She knew better of course, and took her business elsewhere.

I've never heard of single use wheel nuts on any vehicle.

Yeah, I thought so, too.
