Yesterday, I went out to my 98 Vanden plas to let it run since I do not drive it. When I cranked it, it started right up but once I pressed the gas pedal it would not idle. Soon after it stalled. I make another attempt to start it which this time it did take a couple tries to start it but it did start. I pressed the gas pedal, it did idle for a few moments then stalled once more. On the third attempt, it started so I just let it run for 10 to 15 minutes without pressing the gas pedal. When I attempt to press the pedal it idled but took a couple seconds. Anyone ever have this problem? I am thinking gas since I do not drive and it has been extremely hot here in Georgia.

 

The first thing I would do is check the fuel pressure. You can buy a test set at Harbor Freight, then locate the Schrader valve on the fuel rail (looks like tire valve). Pressure should be about 50 lbs before starting, and I think over 40 when running.
Has the fuel filter ever been changed?

 

I will check the fuel pressure. But to answer your question, the filter has not been changed since I've had it. So after checking the fuel pressure, I will change the filter. Will let you know the results.
