Default '98 XJ8 - replacing crank position sensor: How? RESOLVED w/pics

Ladies and gents,

How in the f$&% does one replace the sensor in this hateful beast? The sensor itself is easy enough, but then there is the plug at the end of the harness, tucked up above the a/c compressor, which is itself buried, and, well... there's hardly enough room to see the stupid thing, let alone reach it. I've bent a metal rod to release the plug but backing it out? No way. If I did, fishing the new one up? Doubtful. Getting it seated? Mind bending.

These pics make it look easy, but there is indeed about 10% of the space you might think: Photo 1, the nefarious plug. Photo 2, the access to said plug.

Well if worse comes to worst, you can always unbolt the compressor to help give some more leeway. I don't remeber running into this problem when I installed my engine. It must've already been hooked to the engine harness assembly, which I left on the engine. Good luck and let us know if you find any tricks! Perhaps someone else will chime in with more helpful info!

Found the trick. If the car had died in my other driveway (near the garage and compressor) it would be an easier trick but... you can access the plug with less difficulty through the left front wheel opening.

In the first pic, you can just make out the red lead... in the second pic, you can make out the white, off white, and black wires of the crank position sensor plug.

Default crankshaft position sensor

Is this part located behind the drivers side wheel or passenger side wheel on the engine if I remove a wheel to replace it easier.

Also is there a way to manually roll up the drivers side window as my button console must be replaced. I have the door panel on inside off.

Thanks
