98 XJR Shuts Down After Start
When the ignition is switched "on", the Pump 2 will run for 2 sec. and prime the system (to ~40 psi). On engine is start-up, the Pump 1 will run to supply fuel. The Pump 2 will later be switched "on" if there is higher demand for fuel (hard acceleration or high speeds).
It seems that your Pump 2 is good but Pump 1 (or its relay) is bad.

Great response !
Asking for a friend who had the start / run issue & a heart attack about the same time. He's in recovery, so it may be a few days before he's in shape to check it out.
Thanks !
