Default '99 and '01 VDP SC

Greetings,

I'm new to the forums, currently on e-bay are two Jag VDP supercharged cars for sale. A '99 with 67k miles and an '01 with 105k miles.

I'm hoping to learn from the wealth of knowledge and experience here about the ins and outs of these cars. I have average mechanical skills and am looking for a summer cruiser.

Any and all pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joseph

Talking Supercharged VDPs

That's a very wide area for comments, but most people would love to have a supercharged VDP. As for advice, there is a lot in the archives, most of it is common sense. On Jaguars, the cosmetic condition is very important. If the leather and wood need work, it will run into big money quick. Both will have Nikasil engines, as mine does, but that should not be a problem. The secondary cam chain tensioners, the water pump, and thermostat housing (plastic) are issues also, and suspension bushes, wheel bearings, ball joints, shocks. Let us know how it goes. Good luck !

As a matter of reference, the MY 99 is an Aj26 engine and the MY 01 is an AJ27... Not that it matters much.

Thanks for the info Jim and Ross,

Have you had any transmission troubles?

Regarding cosmetics what do you think about the '99 currently on e-bay? It's a New York car which concerns me a bit, hidden rust and such. The '01 is a Florida car, are drivers seat bolsters expensive to repair? Again thanks for your advice.

Regards,
Joe

Transmissions on the supercharged cars have the Mercedes unit. Very robust, just change the fluid/filter.

Too the 01 does not have the Nikasil engine. As far as bolster repair, any reputable interior shop should be able to handle it.

Good luck!!

Chris
