99 XJ8 Wiper not working
I have a 99 XJ8 and last week the wiper stopped working, I checked the fuse and plugged in a new motor and nothing happened? I can hear the relay clicking on when I turn on the wiper switch? Any ideas?
I recently got an education on wiper motors. Is the one you have a FHP Elmotor model# KSV 5035/590, with a yellow plug and 5 pins? If it is, then take my advice and ditch it, and get a *used* one with a blue plug with 4 pins off Ebay. I found a perfect one for $39. They're plug'n'play by removing the 4 to 5 pin adapter.
With that out of the way, if it isn't the Elmotor described above, and if your misbehaving one is a blue plug 4 pin model, I would suggest removing the whole unit, transmission armature and all, from under the cowl, and see if it'll run just sitting out on top of your engine. If it runs okay, and the arms move, then you know it must be binding somewhere under the cowl, then go from there to see if you can tell where, and correct it's travel.
If it doesn't run out in the open, then I would guess that it's burned out and you got a dud.
Aside from the fuse and the relays, I don't *think* there's any computer logic that controls it. At least I never encountered any snags that I thought were computer related in what I just went through.
Hope that helps. Let the forum know how it turns out for you.

A few months ago my wipers quit, too. I tried switching relays - that didn't help. Digging into it a little deeper I found the linkage was bound up. I was able to fix this by loosening and removing enough stuff to get to the linkage. My clue to it being bound up was just a little shudder from the wiper blades as I quickly turned the wipers on and off.
Hope you can find an easy fix..........
