'99 XJR I'm considering...
Hi all,
So, I'm still in the market for an older Jag, and passed this '99 XJR earlier today. (do a search for "Renaissance Motors Sarasota", since I'm apparently stupid and cannot figure out how to just post the link as a small bit of text...)
Anyway, it looks clean, and the lot it's located at is known in town as a reputable Jag mechanic shop. I'll post a pic.
I'll be going to look at it tomorrow or the day after. The price seems quite reasonable.

Mileage is good, but IMO for the same money you can get a 2001 XJR. 2001-2003 are the better years. When looking at this car make sure to check and see if the timing chain secondary tensioners have been done. This car is most likely is equipped with a nicasil lined engine. Recommend doing a compression test when looking at nicasil blocks. Also, a good idea would be a pre purchase inspection by a jag specialist.
Hi DGaige,
This XJR does look nice. Does it have a full service history?
Check out this link for what to look for:

Tirefrier's suggestion about having a Jag specialist look at this car is something I would do.
For those who are interested here's the direct link to this XJR:
1999 Jaguar XJR, $9,995 - Cars.com

Thanks for the responses!
Went and looked at it and it's gorgeous. They were redoing the headliner when I arrived. The shop, though it works on Mercedes, BMW, etc, has been a Jag specialist in town for many years, so I trust them. Most of the employees drive Jags themselves.
The tensioners have not been done on this car.

Negotiate the price factoring in the tensioners, water pump, and the rest. Ask them how much they would charge you to do it, and deduct this from the asking price. They will quote you the retail cost on the work, and they can do it much cheaper BEFORE you buy the car.
Do the math, and shoot them a CASH offer, with upgrades done.
There IS a deal to be made there. If they don't want to upgrade and/or deal, walk away.
Look for a 2002-2003 private party sale after that (even salvaged with documentation). Anyway,.....that's the way I shop for a car.
