Aerial Mast Replacement FAQ
Update for MDTopless.....................I had the same symptoms. I ordered a new antenna mast from EBAY from a place called Bridgewood Mortorsports Store. Cost was $14.95. Works just fine now.
The new and old mast "tooth" lengths were just the same lengths and frankly I did not expect the new one to work anybetter. I was expecting a longer length. Wrong. Worked just fine. I had removed and reinstalled the old mast everal times prior to ordering a new one and the old one never would work without making the clank, clank sound for several seconds at the end of it's travel. Must have been worn teeth on the plastic that I did not detect.

Just replaced my mast. Worth noting for anyone else reading this thread that a surprising amount of force can be required to get the old one out, as the base section which clips inside the brass tube can seize in. Be prepared to yank hard on the lowest section.
It may come away with a bang (mine did), in which case you'll probably lift it a couple of feet before being able to stop. So if it doesn't come easy, take steps to prevent too much tension going on the toothed cable when the mast comes away, and possibly stripping it - either extend the mast fully so it can collapse as the base moves upwards, or if it doesn't telescope any more, consider snipping the mast off halfway up to decouple the old cable from the mast.

ok this was not a simple 3 min installation took me about an hour, but i also did this a 2 in the morning after getting off work, but my main difficulty was pulling the old antenna out (fixed with Vise-Grips) and winding up the new antenna in the plastic drum, now that i have my new one in, i never knew it was so long
Hello to All,
Long time reader, first time posting.
I'm replacing the entire antenna unit in my 1999 XJR. I need help with the wiring!!
The replacement unit uses modern green/red/black wire colour coding while the XJR has the following: brown with green stripe, green with black stripe and solid black. The XJR wires are within a white connector plug. The replacement wires are loose.
The red wire on the replacement unit states it is the power antenna wire. Which one do I connect from the Jaguar???

first time poster I think...I am just doing this mast replacement. yes, the old one takes a lot of effort, I still have not taken it out. any tricks? I am not very sure on what to pull on?? Any help if much appreciated!
Just had to replace mine again, thanks to a disagreement with a garage door. Conclusions on aftermarket parts -
Going back to OEM this time, 5x the cost but not worth the hassle.
- URO: don't. The one that got broken was one of theirs, and at 12 months old it was rusty enough that I was considering replacing it anyway
- "the black ones" off ebay: don't. Bought one of those this time round, and it flat out didn't fit. Both the ferrule at the end of the mast, and the retainer tube, were both a thou or so too big to go into the housing. Member ixj8it below had a (different) problem with their one too. Mine came from tt_motors, but there are multiple vendors on ebay.

I would not use any type of liquid lubricant like WD-40. These types of lubricant attracts dirt. I would use something like powdered graphite.
I just had to replace mine. the mast was intact, but the plastic geared strip was broken, so I had to pull the motor and disassemble to get the broken piece of the geared strip out.
For those who are interested I found the mast on Rock Auto for $9.23
Here is the part number LNA4134AA
