Default After taking my 308 out of storage, problems...

After taking my 98 XJR out of storage, I am getting a Stability control failure, Traction control failure, ABS light and air bag light...

Sometimes they shut off but then come back on. When I engage my Sport tranny
it stays stuck in first gear and my blinkers do not work?? What the heck? I have to pull over shut off the car disengage the sport tranny and then it starts shifting again and my blinkers start working again. But the dash lights are still on.

Has anyone experienced these problems???

Sounds like low battery voltage to me. Did you have any trouble with it being flat?

Battery is definitely worth a look when having these multiple electrical issues. Mine had the ABS/traction warning for a few days after coming out of hibernation but they went away all by themselves so not sure what causes that.

The batteries in these cars should be kept on a tender (not charger) during storage periods longer than a month or so.

The faults you're seeing are common.

Well, the problem still exists after charging the battery. I brought the car to AutoZone for them to test the battery, he hooked it up and said the battery was fine and taking on a full charge. When he asked me to start the car so he could test the alternator, he said the tester showed a disconnect and could not test anything... The battery was very hot to the touch and the positive cable looked like it started to melt the battery, I could not touch the cable because it was too hot??? Could the battery be bad?

It sounds more like a short in the charging circuit, maybe the alternator itself.

That's a very serious short to ground. Disconnect the battery before something catches fire. Is it possible that animals chewed the wiring while the car was in storage?

RJ237 You were right! I got my car checked out today... Found out it was the alternator pushing out too much power. I guess the alternator was the culprit.
