Default Airbag help

I own an '04 xj8. I totalled it. Bought it back. I've replaced the steering wheel airbag and all three backseat belts. I sent the RCM out to be cleared. While putting the console back together I broke the two small wires leading to the Pass Occ Pos Senor lead. I, mistakenly, thought it was for air control. Once I started it up I got a 17 airbag code. Leading directly to this very sensor. I've spliced the wires back together (since the contact plug was broken and wouldn't hold).
I still get the same code.
My question; Do I have to clear the codes again? Why would unhooking the battery and waiting 20 minutes start a new "check" and see the circuit is good now?

Please help,
Corbin

This is the wrong forum for an '04 - you want the X350 forum I think
