What would cause this to happen? There are no sensors around the key cylinder itself. I can lock the car with my key fob, then come back to it, turn the door key to the right and the alarm beeps a few times, then starts honking the horn. Starting the car makes it stop. Can anyone tell me about the operation of the alarm system on these cars or something to help shine some light on this annoying problem? Thanks in advance!

 

Simple thing to do - when locking on the fob, open with the fob.

If you unlock it with the key, it gives you a few seconds to get the key in the ignition. If you miss the time limit it goes off.

Download the handbook and read up on it.

 

Ok cool, I can probably find hand book on here somewhere. Sounds like this is normal though? I only have this problem when my worn out fob decides to not unlock tha is for the quick reply!

 

gotcha, when I bought an XJ with dead batteries in the fobs, I recall rushing to get the key in the ignition, it's a real pita.
