Default Alarm went off - door switch?

I was working outside yesterday and the XJR starts its warning countdown - then the alarm goes off?? I had not moved the car for a few days. I figured that the trunk was not fully closed -- wrong.

After playing with the doors / trunk / hood for a while -- I think the problem is with the front passenger door (RF)

As best as I can figure out the car thinks the door is always open. The other doors will activate the interior lights and then the car goes into the long interior light timeout because it thinks the front passenger door is still open. If I open just the FR door - nothing happens? I am guessing because the car believes it is already open.

Does anyone know how this system works?

I am thinking that maybe the door switch failed -- not sure how the car gets the signal. I am thinking the alarm and lights use the same normally open switch that closes when the door opens.

Obviously ........can't lock the car.

The other possibility is that the circuit is closed when the door is closed and "opens" when the door opens -- in this case it could be the switch or a broken wire someplace or even bad connection.
