ASC and flashing amber warning

ASC and flashing amber warning
1999 XJ8 Long Wheel Base. Shortly after I drive away after stopping for a while, 5 mins or more, the amber warning light starts flashing and ASC appears and the engine limits power/revs. It seems to happen after the auto changes into 2nd gear. There is no loss of traction and is independent of throttle setting. However, when I reduce the throttle to a coast or less, the warning stops flashing, the ASC disappears and the power returns. This may happen once or 3 to 4 times before normal operation returns. I have cleared the part load breather on the left bank and cleaned the MAF sensor. This has not improved the performance at all. 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
