Hi, over the last couple of days the chime that rings when use my fob to lock or unlock the doors on my '98 XJ8 VDP has slowly started to get softer in sound. I used to be able to hear distinctly from 30 feet away, now its barely audible. any ideas why this is happening, did i accidentally hit some button in the cabin i'm not aware of? its very puzzling. everything else is working great in terms of electrics and otherwise. there's no problem starting the car so i don't think its battery related. Any insight or troubleshooting tips you can give would be appreciated.

 

sorry, just wanted to add, the range at which i can lock or unlock my doors hasn't seemed to change so i don't think its the battery in the fob. i couldn;t see how that would affect the sound of the chime anyways but wanted to add that.

Mines done that since I got it a couple months ago. It never was loud for me. I guess I just wasn't worried about it. But now your post makes me worry if it could be a sign of something worse.... thanks!

 

On euro/UK models I think it's the indicators that flash on lock/unlock, no chime or chirp, so I've never heard it.
There's a speaker located front right (from front of car) low down under the bonnet that might be on it's way out?

 

okay thanks. the chirp is almost completely gone so i better track down that speaker while i can. the lights still flash fine and other than the chirp problem the lock/unlock functions fine.

going to see if i can lock the doors with the bonnet up to try and find that speaker, wonder if it will let me do that.

other than that I'm loving my jag.
