Default Best way to re-glue veneer?

The shifter-surround trim piece on my XJ8 has its veneer coming loose, over about half its circumference. This is the oval piece that is shaped like a horse collar. I am wondering what the best adhesive might be. Contact cement? Super glue? Epoxy? Gorilla glue? Something more exotic? I would think it might be difficult to get contact cement into the gap from the sides, as I usually use the spray on kind of that glue. I also am not sure how I would get the old glue off, or if I should even try.

a good two part epoxy, slow setting, a thin blade to slide the glue between surfaces, some small plastic clamps to clamp the two parts together, clean off the excess as its squeezed out with panel wipe. Of course its easier if off the car. Let it cure and re-fit.
