Bonnet/Hood
My bonnet/hood won't release on the passenger side. The drivers side pop up when I release the leaver. I was showing s friend the engine last night and he dropped the bonnet/hood from a rather high position when closing. My car is a 1998 XJ8L.

Hi Chris
Welcome to the forum.
Here a weblink to another forum thread that has a solution to your hood/bonnet issue (look at post# 52, # 53 and # 57)
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...release-29427/
As a new member with less than 10 posts you will not be able to view the images in the posts, but if you logout (guest mode) then you can view them.
The Log Out is all the way to the right on the black menu bar. When you logout, it will ask you "if you are sure"" check on yes, then if it asks you about "clearing the cookie" check on yes.
There are 3 photos in post# 53.

since the hood can't seem to handle being dropped I now use the safety closing method.
1. gently rest the hood in the down position
2. press down on one side until you hear it click and it is in the fully closed position
3. walk around to the other side of the car and then press down on that side
it's annoying but so is a broken hood release
good luck with you issue

Got my hood released. Thank you to all who replied to my post. The instructions were spot on. Now the big question is.What is usually wrong with the release. Is there usually a common issue with it??? Thanks again.

Fixed my release for my Hood. The end of the cable has a ball, this ball pulls against a clip like a horse shoe clip.Wrapped around this cable is a plastic coating. This coating keeps the ball from going through the clip. The coating was warn to pieces. I wrapped it in electrical ties. And it worked. Very simple and cheap fix.Eventually the ties will wear out from use. So they will need to be replaced down the road.
