Default Brakes brakes brakes?

Hi all,

I need brakes! My 2002 XJR rear rotors are warped. Fronts a bit warped too, but very slight.
I want to buy the EBC slotted & dimpled rotors from Tdot as I’m in Canada, but goddamn they are over $1000 for 4 rotors!

Can fellow members shoot me a reply with what brakes they have used, what they liked or didn’t like, and if anyone has the EBC rotors, where did they get them and how much did you end up paying?

I recently bought back my 1st love, her name is Angelina. I had sold her a few years ago and missed her ever since! I kept in touch with the buyer, and when he was ready to sell, I got my Angelina again ❤️

get an affordable name brand rotor and pad set, preferably coated. Ate (the brand that made every single component in the car’s braking system) gets the job done but centric and brembo is great too.

a $500+ set of drilled and slotted powerstops or ebcs won’t perform any better than a $50 set of bendix on clearance. chances are they’ll actually be worse

when you say brake, are you talking about the rotor or the calipers?

You won't like it but xalty is right, clearance bendix will do perfectly right (tried myself) but of course if you like the look of slotted drilled and powerboosted rotors than paying 1000 is a way to go, they cost 4x that from jag after all. and if all fails you can go full cheapo and test mtec stuff from ebay on yourself

So maybe I’ll avoid buying rotors for the look...
However I would still appreciate any others input on what brands X308 XJR owners have experienced and recommend!

I have used mtec brake rotors in my daily Volvo for 4 years now. To me mtec brake rotors have been really good rotors. Bought them after two warped brembo rotors( warped in couple of weeks..) My jag has warped rear ones and sligtly warped fronts. I'm turning in to the mtech in jag too.

I know you said 02’ XJR but it would help if you specified R1 Brembo brakes or if you have standard brakes on your car.

Standard brake system.
NOT the brembo brakes.

Never heard of Mtech (?) rotors...

I’m leaning towards plain non-slotted rotors at this point.

Anyone know if there is an upgrade?
eg. often a manufacturer will have a larger rotor, but same size pads & same caliper.
The difference is the caliper bracket is bigger, putting the caliper further away giving a larger heat sink and more braking torque as the caliper is biting father from the hub centre.

"Never heard of Mtech (?) rotors..." me neither, found them while searching for mine on ebay, at first i thought they are chinese but it is small uk company, bit too small for my taste
I bet new rotors and good pads all around will make you more then happy with your braking experience. you gonna find plenty posts about pads on forum

I've used mainly Bosch or Brembo parts for both my XJ8 and XJR. Never had a problem for 30K+ miles, no squeaking or shuttering. You should be able to get quality parts for under $500, brakes and rotors, all 4 wheels. I personally go to rockauto for normal wear and tear parts, they are cheap and reliable but shop wherever you prefer.

$1000 seems way high unless you are buying parts from the dealer or paying someone else for the labor.

M-Tec actually has good prices on their rotors. Does anyone know the benefits of a ‘c-hook’ rotor? M-Tec has slotted, cross-drilled, dimpled and c-hook, which I’ve never seen before.
Anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

A C-hook rotor offers great initial break response but like other aggressively slotted rotors can wear pads out faster and unevenly. Have you used these M-Tec guys before? From what I have seen the reviews are all over the place with complaints of squeaking and excessive rotor expansion from heat. Unless you are planning on a lot of track days I would go with cheaper (but still quality Brembo or Bosch, etc) more well known brand name parts.
