In the middle of replacing the fuel pump. Once inside I found the wiring harness connector at the fuel pump crumbled when I was unplugging it. The positive wire is burnt at the metal pin connector. The new fuel pump has a 4 inch pigtail connector that plugs into the fuel pump and the wiring harness plugs into the pigtail.

Can I splice this new pigtail directly into the existing wiring harness?

Is it necessary to replace the entire inside the tank harness?

TIA,
Pat

No, it's not necessary to change the interior harness in the tank. Most likely the burnt offerings on your wires had to do with a bad fuel pump or a bad ground. Check your ground when you hook up the wires and new fuel pump. That could be a dangerous situation for anything having to do with fuel.

And, yes, you can splice directly onto the existing wiring harness...that's what the pigtail is for.
