Default A/C expansion valve

so I went to get the a/c recharged. And the tec told me that my expansion valve is bad it pulls a vacuum or something it won't blow cold. He only does recharges. Now is that a easy thing to replace or not? Also where is it located? It's a 1999 XJ8L

Have you done a site search? There are many threads on it and you'll need to review them to determine just cause for replacement of the valve. Here are two examples from "A/C expansion valve" search....
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...please-184342/
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-181596/
If you don't have it, copy this to your favorites.. JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource ..go to Site Search, type in X308 expansion valve and open the Jaguar Climate Control #703, reference pages 1.4.6, 2.2.2 and 2.2.5. You'll want to go through it a bit more and compare what is in those threads with the technical layout in the pdf.

Thanks I'll look into that today. But I'm probably going to take it to a a/c specialist to have him diagnose it. And when I find out more I'll post back on this thread. Thanks again

Bob had a suggestion worth mentioning on the X300 that should be applicable to the X308 if it is an expansion valve .

Blow compressed air and flushing solvent back and forth and charge the system with refrigerant. Repeat as necessary. A few more beads will be expelled.

It is tedious but it is easier (for me) than changing the expansion valve.
