Default A/C has taken a vacation

I have a 2000 XJ8-L and up until now the AC has worked perfectly. Today I took off in it and the ac compressor isnt coming on at all. I was just wondering if something going haywire electronically would throw some code or something? Does the climate control lock out the AC button LED if the freon has leaked out? Because the panel still lites up the AUTO-AC buttons. But no compressor engagement.

Thanks

check a/c compressor relay
also verify freon charge

How you make the compressor come on if its low on refridgerant? I know some domestic cars you just jump the low side pressure sensor. Is there a way to that on this?

Yes, you could possibly jump the low pressure switch but why would you do that, you need to hook some guages up to her and see if it still has a charge.

Running the a/c with the low pressure switch bypassed could damage the compressor.

Try adding some ac coolant to the system. When the compressor on my 95 XJ6 stopped working do to a leak, after fixing the leak and recharging the system the compressor came back on as soon as I added enough charge to it. It is a safety so that the compressor doesn't get damaged as the coolant also has the lubrication in it.
Hope this helps.

Thats what Im talking about jumping the sensor so it would come on. If it comes on at that point then I know the wiring is all good to the compressor and it would have to be a bad sensor or low charge. I hate hooking the gauges up to it because the last time it was checked the little valve spewed a little freon when the hose was disconnected. Not a lot but more than it should. So I didnt want to hook up the gauges just to find it was charged and it was a wiring problem. I find it hard to beleive that the freon leaked out in 9 hours, but I know its not impossible.

I ran the codes on the climate control panel and it came up 14 and 23. So I guess it is low on refridgerant. Thats weird it done that, it must have a gross leak somewhere.

I put a can of freon in it and it started spewing it from where the two lines go into the firewall. Right where they mate onto the evaporator. I guess it blew a oring?
