Default Cabin Air Filter

I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen but I have searched and googled and am stumped. I want to replace the cabin filter in my elderly father's 2003 xj8 sport but I can't find it. Removed 5 Phillips screws and lifted up cowl wiper goes through but didn't see anything. Am I going to have to try and remove wiper? I'm not even sure if it's on passenger or drivers side.
Any and all help appreciated.

The filter mounting point is on the passenger side under the cowl. You have to remove the wiper arms to get there. Fortunately, the US cars were not fitted with the filter unless they were special ordered or added later so there is probably no filter to replace.

There are any number of forum members that ordered the filter before discovering that the box was not there. I am sure you could pick a filter up cheap from one of them.

. . . and welcome to the forum!

Is it just the filter itself that was left off US spec cars, or was there some sort of filter housing also? If the latter, no reason not to just buy a filter and put it in. One of my other cars (not a Jag) was without a filter, but all you needed to do was slide one into the slot.

Seems odd to leave a $5 filter out of a very expensive car.....

There is a Jaguar part number filter box that can be added but did not come with most US cars. You cannot install a filter without the box because there just isn't room to properly duct tape it to the firewall.

. . . and a Jaguar filter is not $5 even though that is what it should be.

It does not matter if you have one or not. They are NLA so you just clean them if you have them.

Here is a TSB from the dinosaur age.
