Default CAN Buss Analyzers?

Hello,
I have seen a number of post recently about CAN buss problems and of course I have had my share over the years. My question to the group; are there OBD scanners that will read the communications packets on the bus and report which module may be having a problem? Something like an analyzer that would record CAN buss errors and create a log showing which module is creating these errors? Or perhaps the ECU is receiving errors and storing them in a log that could be read by a scanner/ analyzer?

That would certainly be handy....

I've not seen anything aside from IDS (Legacy IDS within SDD) that will truly interpret X308 CAN traffic, but you can certainly view bus traffic it and make assessments on network activity and module reporting. A basic USB-to-CAN adapter and any Linux machine (laptop, Raspberry Pi, etc) with can-utils is a great start. From there you could either interpret the module data being broadcast (arduous process), or utilize the UDS protocol. Do know that CAN activity isn't logged in this system, when the network terminates the messages are gone, though modules may store a flag depending on conditions/messages, and broadcast it again.

You must be a pretty smart guy ixfn! That sounds like a lot of technical activity just to get it in a state to check the buss and then figure out what module is having a problem. I probably won't get into that right now since all my cars are working and not throwing codes; but who knows in the future how desperate I might be?
Thanks a bunch!

CAN bus stuff is never simple on or off sutff. There is aways much knowledge needed. Especially with cars like this when there is not just can bus but serial type bus and other type bus too(cant remember what).
