Default Cannot work on car issues -must sell?

My wife and I are at a loss about our Jag. Since posting this in September, the month I retired, I have had a serious fall, breaking my left upper arm and tearing my left quadriceps (dog tripped me with leash!). I was left with some seriousbvertigo which is still being diagnosed. Some long term heart rate and rhythm issues have become much worse, and I am having an ablation and other treatment next week. This all restricts me physically, even if everything goes well..

Our choices are to sell the car to someone who knows it it will repay work put into it, or to give to the Kidney Foundation for the charity tax purposes (which seems foolish). But our apartment complex is forcing us to get rid of it, or renew the registration, or it will be towed.

i will try to take pictures with my phone tomorrow and post them. The last we knew, the car started and ran with a jump if the battery was charged. But it won’t charge the battery. I am physically unable to even check belts, no less troubleshoot to any degree.

i cannot think of another alternative. I can’t afford to keep this great car unless I can work on it. On Social,Security and little 401(K) retirement, it is too expensive to pay to have it fixed and serviced by anyone else.

As I posted last September,
”My wife and I have owned a champagne-colored 1998 XJ8 for about 9 years. It had a new clear coat when we purchased it in a private deal. It has about 140K miles. About 15K miles ago, the transmission failed and we had it properly rebuilt by the best Jag tranny shop in Charlotte.

Most of the hoses have been replaced because of age. I also put in a new thermostat. We put on new tires about a year ago.

The heat no longer works (I can’t hear or feel the relevant pump running, so I think that’s the problem), and there is some leaking of oil at the valve covers. This spring, the car was running fine, but stopped charging the battery. It runs fine on street and highway with a freshly-charged battery. The interior is in nice shape, and the exterior needs a good wash.

So it is sitting there. I am reluctant to put any more money into it, and where we live, I cannot put in a new alternator myself (which I suspect is the charging issue). How do I sell it, and for how much? We don't want to give it up, but we don’t need two cars and need to pay a few bills off.”

I hope the recently rebuilt transmission is a big plus for selling it. It needs a good wash, some gasket work in the upper engine where oil is leaking, and the charging issue addressed. The interior is in very good shape and overall, the car is a prize. We are heartsick to be losing it. We thought we had a great car for years to come once the known weakness of the transmission was fixed, but sadly it wasn't in the cards for us.

thanks!

Brian,

When you first posted on the forums last September, it was with the sole intention of selling this vehicle. You didn't have the courtesy to post an Intro or follow any of the (few) rules we have. The only detail your latest post doesn't include is an asking price - other than that it is nothing less than an ADVERTISEMENT for sale.

I've CLOSED this thread.

READ THE RULES
because any more like this in the Model forum will be removed. There's an ANNOUNCEMENT at the top of every Model forum about advertising:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-please-read/

Put it in the right place and there won't be a problem.

Graham
