Recently my 1998 xjr has not always been going in to gear. Turning the car off and back on solves the problem. Does anybody have ideas regarding the issue?

To clarify, I'll
a)turn on car
b)shift from parkto reverse or drive
and then when i hit the gas, the car just revs...it is not in gear.

sounds as if the shifter cable may be out of adjustment .. make sure when puting into reverse or drive that the actuall 'D' or 'R' isilluminated.
