Carbon Build Up
Hey guys, so I have the intake manifold off now from my 2003 VDP (NA) and there is a lot of carbon build up on both the ports of the manifold, and the ports going into the heads. Should I attempt to clean these up while it is all apart or just leave well enough alone and treat with some gas additive later? Obviously I will need to clean up the mounting surface, and block the intake ports to the head so nothing falls into the engine while cleaning it all up. I was thinking of spraying the intake manifold down with some kind of carbon cleaner but am not sure what is out there to use, nor what is safe on the plastic and lower part of the throttle body that is still attached to the manifold.

A steam cleaner or good old soap and water would work on the intake, just make sure its completely dry before reinstalling of course. I haven't messed with cleaning the intakes physically but if I did I would rotate the engine to close the intake valves cylinder by cylinder and then blow it out/vacuum thoroughly once some cleaner was applied.
