carrier bearing replacement
I am looking for complete info on how to replace the carrier bearing on a 97 vdp.Do I have to pull the complete driveshaft out or can I separate de back from the front? Thanks for the help.
There are plenty of 'write-ups' on the rear wheel bearing replacement procedure.
I leave the halfshaft in situ in tilt the hub for access to the seals/bearings.
You can use wood blocks to support the hub to drift the races out of the hub assy.
I use a transmission jack with the car on a lift but it can be done with jack stands.
Sometimes the splined shaft will NOT release and then removal of the halfshaft complete can be pressed out with a shop press.
Disconnecting the handbrake cable and 'fishing' it through the pinion end support plate will make it easier to move the hub around.
