Changing boot struts/trunk struts on XJ Sport 1998
Having a few issues here! Trying to change boot struts on XJ Sport 1998. Thought it would be easy. Watched youtube vid on a different car and it seemed so easy to get strut off, so climbed into trunk and off we go.......or at least 1/2 off! Disconnected end I could see with no problem at all but other end of strut seems to be somewhere deep in car. How am I meant to get to it? Could get a screwdriver in a poke around but how do I put the new one on? Do I have to take back seat out??? Any help appreciated. Jo

Jo,
You are NEW, so welcome.
Your car is what is known as an X308, but dont panic, no harm done.
The front "clip" of the boot struts is up alongside the fuel tank, and more easily "felt" than seen, DUMB.
Remove the trim panel covering the fuel tank (2 Xmas tree type studs), and the 2 side trim panels, they simply pull out carefully. Now get a narrow blade screwdriver, and slide it along the old strut, and feel for the clip, pop it.
If you look at the clip arrangement on the new ones, it will be quite clear. The new ones should just "pop" onto the ball.
I suggest the RH side first, as teh LH goes thru the fuel tank filler tube set up.
I did mine with one hand on the end up inside and slid the screwdriver in using my fingers as a guide to that clip. Not easy, or pretty, but it worked.
