Changing part designations
While pondering the mystery of the size of my NA ‘03 VDP’s fuel tank, I came across what to me is an oddity. There are several different part numbers for the fuel tank for a 308 VDP, all with the central portion the same: 5908. The prefix appears to vary from NND to NNG (don’t know if there’s anything in between), and the endings I have encountered are AL, AP and BF. As I look at pictures of these tanks on sales sites I see large stickers on them with part numbers and different codings like “unleaded fuel” “purple” “blue” and I don’t recall but maybe there was one identified as “regular fuel.” Best I can tell all the different varieties fit my car, at least the ones identified as a “single pump” version. All those I have listed above are single pump ones.
I’m sort of convinced that I have the smaller European 3.2 fuel tank on mine (21.4 gallons) based on its refueling history as opposed to 23.1g. Wouldn’t surprise me as the car is very near the end of the X308 line.
So, the question: can anyone educate me about the reasons for the changing prefix and suffix?
