Default Check Engine Light after Car Wash

Just got my New to me 03 XJ8 and drove it 9 hours home and all was well. Well today I took it to the car to the car wash since it was covered in salt from the snow coming through PA yesterday.

Anyways after the car wash I got 2 codes:

P1000 - Manf Cntrl Fuel/Air metering, Auxiliary Emissions controls
P0442 - EVAP Emission Control System Leak (small)

At least this is what my OBDII scanner told me. I figured it was something just got wet, but figured I better ask.

Ok, after some research I see that P0442 is probably the fuel cap... hmmm I hope I don't have to buy a fuel cap the day after I buy the car.

I think I read on here that on Jags the P1000 code means the system isn't even ready yet, hasn't been through enough drive cycles.

Don't get discouraged...you might need to reposition and tighten the fuel cap. Ignore the P1000, it's is just a system ready code. Go and enjoy the new Jag some more before losing any sleep about it.

Thanks, I just read ever post on here concerning P1000 and P1111 woo hoo. Dang and I thought my Land Rover had some odd things I had to deal with... This car will fit right into my crazy life and family

Of course my wife about killed me when she asked why I was going outside after being gone most of the afternoon (had to drive it even after driving 9 hours yesterday), and I told her I was checking the CEL. She hates it when I walk toward my Rover with my scanner... I can just see her mind working - how much is he going to cost me with his next "Honey, I need to call and order some parts".... but hey after 19 years of marriage and she is still putting up with me I may even let her drive it once in awhile.
