Checking for blow-by on '99 XJR
Hello, I'm new. Been spending many hours on this forum trying to gain an understanding of the various issues with my new vehicle and how to prevent them.
Regarding the Nikasil I've read both that it isn't a problem at all and that it absolutely will fail. It seems the popular notion is that it is not as much of a concern these days as it was a few years ago. Never the less, I would greatly appreciate if you would take a look at my engine and give me some feed back.
Here is the video:

The '99 XJR has 89,000 miles on it. I have no service records. I pulled the airbox apart and found a thin film of oil around the inlet to the MAF, no puddles - and if there was any oil on the filter it wasn't noticeable.
Also, the engine is very clean. Almost too clean. I was lying under it yesterday just looking to see what I could see and the block has no oil, dirt or road grime on it. I'll try to put up a picture later.

I had spent many hours / days / months pulling information together about Nikasil and the so called blow-by test. Take a look at the information I have on Nikasil and see if it answers your questions.

Thanks, I hadn't come across that before. Tomorrow I will call Jaguar to try to get the engine serial number. I did find a sticker on the bottom of the engine with the VIN so I expect it to be the original engine.
Is what is shown in the video normal? Before I bought it I removed the oil fill cap and found no indication of blow by. Today I pulled the hose of the right side and it does show vapors coming out. If I hadn't read about the Nikasil issue I wouldn't think anything of it. But since I have, it makes me wonder.
