Default Cleaning wiring connectors

Question.......is it a necessity to disconnect the battery to disconnect wiring harness connectors to clean them with electrical cleaner and put them back together or it does not matter.........what would be the appropiate way to accompliash this without causing any counfusion to thr program mechanism.....i have a 98 xj8L

IMHO, just have the car turned off,don't worry about the battery. Use a spray contact cleaner, let it dry, and plug back in.
I get a little annoyed when every procedure in a car manual says "disconnect the battery" regardless of what you're doing.
