I gotta ask, do you have the uprated tensioners in it?

I think I know what you mean. Is there a loud popping sound?? If so, it's just the engine warming up. I don't know why only certain 308's do this other than metal expansion. It's probably the exhaust manifolds and the manifold gasket on the head. Is it normal? Not really, but it's not hurting anything.

Nope, the car has 78k miles, thinking of upgrading metal tensioners and chains as well as the guides.

A normal "clunk?" No, not at all!

Unless it only happens going over bumps, then you need to check the sway bar links and bushings and front upper shock bushings.

I never heard the sound of this engine before, watch and hear the sound on video I can't tell any difference, put the handle end of a long screw driver to your ear and the tip of it to various point of the engine to pinpoint where the sound came frome.

Frankly, sounds completely normal to me ;o)
Valve rustling, injector ticks and the regular clicking of the
solenoids that operate about every couple of minutes to feed
oil into the VVT's (Variable valve Timing).
These are only found on 4.0 ltr NA engines, not super charged ones.
Nothing sounded out of place to me ;o)

This happens when the climate control system is off.

At 2:04, the noise is A/C. Turn the A/C off (you probably have it in auto mode), then try again. Rest of the noise is normal. I hear some injector noise (normal), valve train and camshaft whine (normal). Actually pretty quiet.

But, I am confused: you said this noise was in your XJ8, but this video is the XK8? Same noise? If so, you are good to go. If not the same clicks at 2:04, then make your own video from you cell phone and post that. But first, be absolutely sure the A/C is OFF.

Alright, I will do this tomorrow morning as the noise comes from a cold start.
