Default code reader

I know this has been covered numerous times but i found nothing recent in a search. Looking at getting a new code reader and wondered if anyone had a good suggestion, seems to be a lot of options available now. thanks, Keith

My first OBDII scanner did cost about AUD$500, promised to also be able to program the S-Type remove fob (but did not), and is pretty much crap all over. It's from X-Tools.
Many years later - more or less recently - I bought utterly cheap OBDII scanners on Aliexpress: One for under AUD$10, another for about AUD$16:
The cheapest one requires you to blue-tooth-connect you phone, where you have to download an app (which you have to find yourself): A lot of work involved, but it works fine, if you succeed finding that app. The slightly more expensive one includes the display and is very good.

Foxwell NT860Pro seems to work well for me, not that I've needed to use it much.
They were on offer as ex demo from a UK supplier & that's why I picked this particular one.

Yes the ELM327 is VERY inexpensive and if a user feels comfortable with using
a downloaded Application to interface either the WiFi or Bluetooth on his ohone,
the results can be excellent. I have used inCarDoc and Car Scanner as well as
Auto Doctor from the Apple store. They all have different strengths and weak-
nesses. It really depends on what you, personally, are looking for as far as
information.
