Default Compatible transmissions 2003 XJ8L

Hello! I own a 2003 XJ8L X308 of course in need of a transmission my car has 132000 miles and a bad trans I found a 1999 XJ8L with a blown engine from the timing chain issues from those years. Could I use the transmission from that car for mine? what years are compatible 1998-2003? xj8? xk8? i know there is no way to test it before I buy it correct? but i am looking at 2 "parts" cars one has 150,000 miles the other has 202,000 miles both 1999's both xj8L and both have blown engines with supposedly good transmissions I am assuming with these mileages they should have all ready been rebuilt??? what is usually the mileage they fail and and after the rebuild can the still fail from the same problem again PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

ALL ZF 5HP24 transmissions will work. I have installed a 1998 AJ26 gearbox into a 2000 VDP and it operated normally. The only thing I have not tried is to use the AJ26 rotary switch on the AJ27 car. I just swap the original switch to the replacement gearbox.
