considering buying '00 xj8 with trans problem

Hi, im mostly new to jaguars and Ive been looking at a few xj8s. I have a question on one, its a 2000 with about 100k. Apparently the trans will not go into reverse when cold, after a couple minutes it will and no other obvious trans problems. Does anybody know of any possible simple fixes for this, or is it more than likely the start of a fatal transmission issue?
Also, if it is a slipping trans, how bad of a trans it is to rebuild? Im a GM tech and have experience in most of our 5 and 6 speed autos, but am completely unfamiliar with the jag unit.
thanks!

Sounds like a weak pump to me on a ZF, I'd figure it needs a new trans, but someone smarter than me may have another idea.
The car, with 100k on it, also needs a leakdown test done on the engine and updated timing chain tensioners and new chains IMMEDIATELY.
