Couple of Random Questions
Hey guys,
Got a couple of questions here if someone would mind throwing in their two cents:
1. My 02 XJR all of sudden is getting pretty poor mileage. I calculate it manually as the button at the end of my stalk doesn't work so I can't move through the different MPG/AVG SPD/etc...screens (another issue, but not enough of a bother to remove the whole steering wheel...). I used to be able to get 270 miles out of tank pretty consistently and now I'm down to about 210-220. Seems like I went from about 14 down to around 11 MPG. Mostly city driving and rarely in sport. Nothing significant has changed. Same brand of gas, same tire pressures, same route to work, no CEL, no codes being thrown. I read another post about the guy with the XJ8 getting 8MPGs and read the pdf about cleaning the TB, MAF sensor, and air breather tube which I'd be glad to try. I know it's kind of hard to pinpoint as it could be a million things, but anything else I might want to check?
2. My next question is regarding the auto-tilt/telescope feature of the wheel. With the car running and in park, should it tilt away when the door is opened? I could swear it used to when I first bought the car, but now it doesn't and it's kind of pain getting out when closing my garage door (Before anyone suggests, I'm in a rental otherwise I would spring for an automatic opener!), but it applies to valet service, car washes, etc...

OK...I knew as soon as I hit post on the original posting, I would remember my 3rd question. I was reading another post and there was mention of the torque converter either locking up or not locking up at 50MPH in/out of sport. I googled it and got a lot of the technical aspects, but couldn't seem to figure out what it means in real world driving. Does it do it in or out of sport and what is the benefit? MPG, power, etc?
