Default Crankshaft Damper Pulley

I have a XJ8 1999 (T). I have recently changed the engine and the the new engine was running great up until the other day when the crankshaft damper pulley had worked itself loose as not been torqued correctly. I have now bought a replacement. Will this just fit straight on or is there anything that goes on first washers etc as old pulley looks worn at the back as if it has been rubbing against something. Could this be caused by it not being correctly tightened ?

It’s possible but, you won’t know the extent of the damage until the old one is off. If you’re unsure, post bright, clear photos when you get the old one off. It’s a 24mm socket head.

The first 2 pics are the old one as can be seen it’s worn which has caused a lip. The 3rd pic is the new one.
So I’m assuming that this has been caused by it not being tightened correctly?

Looks like it spun against the forward crankshaft timing gear and that wore into the damper pulley, causing the groove you see. An oil change would be prudent to clean out any metal particles that came from this wear. Or, if you're extremely caution, pull the timing cover and hose down the area with some cleaner, then do an oil change?

As for your other question, yes this could be caused by inadequate tightening. Make sure to use some kind of Jag damper holding tool (you can get ones on Ebay for not too much), and get that damper bolt damn tight. Also, definitely put a fresh crank damper bolt in.
