Kidding on that one, I still like this model, and it is certainly on my list.
Looks great from the outside, just the interior is a bit outdated (or just a bit too much 20th century Benz).
And an other observation, how sleek the x308 looks next to this sportscar.

Congratulations on your new toy, it does show the different way the English and Germans go about designing a car.
The English way is form over function. If you end up with a slightly cramped interior and a shallow boot, tough, If we make them any bigger you loose all the lines.
The German way is all function over form. Probably better to compare with an X100 XK8 than an X308 XJ8 as they are both proper GT cars built to cross continents in the least amount of time in the most comfort.
I am not saying one is a better way than the other, just interesting approaches to the same problem.
Of course it is now totally irrelevant as they are all designed by computer and by enlarge all look the same.

Great spring car! Been a fan of the body style for a while but in keeping with the theme of the thread of shitting on your joy those rimzors need to go. Look at the mid 2000's AMG rims and that car will look so much more modern.
But seriously, back roads and that car will be a good time. I get it, op!

How do you do it - reading my mind.....
I'm currently looking at those down here and trying to convince the boss that she needs one to replace the boring (well, a little bit) 2013 Jetta she currently has. They are very well priced. How many miles on it?
Great minds think alike.
Also - I like the "R" badges on the front and back of the XJR too.

When you ask for opinions/reactions on the forum you must expect extremes from 'love' to 'hate' and almost anything in between.
Clearly you like both the XJR and the MB or you wouldn't own them. Although Jaguar and Mercedes Benz compete in the same market demographic, a four door saloon from one manufacturer and a two door coupe from the other are design concepts fulfilling different requirements and they make an excellent pair.
I was expecting to see your own comparative appraisal of the two and I think you would have received more detailed responses if you had done this.

Folks look at my Europa and go 'ick!' Like preferring Angelina Joli over Cameron Diaz. Fine examples both...but it's a matter of taste...

Great looking car. The wheels make such a difference on those!
I keep almost buying one but I really need the backseat for my eight year old. My last Corvette was the last two seater I had and it sat a lot because it couldn't fit us all. If the euro rear jump seat was more passenger friendly on those R129s, I would have pulled the trigger already. Fantastic cars.
I used to do track days with a guy who would bring his out. Not blistering fast, but it never broke and didn't embarrass itself.
