Welcome Phalliday, please introduce yourself and your Jag here.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/ ....be sure to review the site rules, it only takes a couple minutes.

Are you sure its the trans downshifting hard or perhaps could be bad jurid coupling or universals that may be binding when downshifting?
Have you ever changed your fluid and filter? Off hand, if it is the trans, it sounds like a sticking valve and a simple fluid change may be your cure?

Default Fill plug location

Filler plug for the transmission jaguar x308. Effectively the rear right hand corner.

Rear right hand corner of the transmission. There's a video on YouTube too. Search for jaguar transmission fluid change or similar. You need an 8 or 9mm hex too.

Definitely an X308? In case a later model with ZF box then you're in the wrong forum...

this is fixed 90% of the time with a transmission ecu(tcm) reflash with new updated software. If you have never changed the fluid and have over a 100k I personally would be very cautious. A trans that has been running ok with old dirty fluid suddenly may no longer shift correctly and slip with new clean fluid. the filter is the pan and youll need a elect sleeve and 5 liters fluid including a new pan and updated larger pan bolts. Then you need a pump to get the fluid in and car level off the ground. Not impossible to do in the driveway but definitely a royal pain in the butt.. Then the tcm should be reflashed along with the engine control module. This can only be done at either a dealer, Jaguar independent shop, OR a trans shop that definitely has the correct software to update a ZF and ecu. And this is THE FIX from ZF for this issue. there ya go
