Dreaded cam tensioners????
I am hoping for some of the great advice I have seen on these forums. I have a 1998 XJ8 with 114,000ish miles on it. Last night I drove the car for about 7 hours with no problems. When I parked it at home I decided to move it so I didn't have to park on a hill. Nothing happened. It would crank over but not start. I let it sit over night and tried agin this morning. Nothing. It wound crank but not start. Had it towed to dealership when they started it herd a rattle in the engine and immediately shut it down. in the past two months I have had the 100,000 mile service, rear pinion seal replaced and idler pulley and belt replaced. I am hoping it is not the dreaded can tensioners ( I have put out enough lately). I love the car and smile everytime I drive it. Any ideas about what the issue could be. It ran very rough for a few second (less than 5 secs)when it started hopefully no interference problems.
You, obviously, have been reading the forum.
With the limited information provided sounds like cylinder wash on the starting problem since the tech got it started without any stated repairs. And cam chain jump on rough idle. Rough idle might be survivable. VERY rough might not. At this point it would appear that you are in the hands of the dealer tech.
