Default Electrical Fault Message Yesterday

We went out in the car yesterday afternoon and it was between 10*F & 15*F outside and we're currently experiencing an inversion, therefore it's quite foggy. On my way home, the message center flashed, ELECTRICAL FAULT, for a fraction of a second. It flashed so quickly, it was comparable to subliminal advertising, but I recalled seeing ELECTRICAL and checked the owner's manual. It appears as though ELECTRICAL FAULT would have been the message, which the manual says to call Jaguar dealership service immediately.

I have an AE scan tool with the Jaguar module and I'll run a scan on it sometime today. After searching this forum, I've found very little in regard to the aforementioned message, but it seems to point towards the Body Control Module or possibly the Security Module.

Anyone ever deal with this issue before? I'm hopeful it's just a hiccup from the cold and everything is fine.

If you don't find anything with AE, it could well be a weather related piece of misinformation. Of course your manual tells you to call the dealer, they need your money.

Oh, believe me, the last thing on my mind is, call the dealer.

I do not know the age of the battery.

I scanned the car and got the U1135 code. It would not permit me to clear it regardless of cycling the key.

I'd get the battery tested first before worrying - these cars are very sensitive to voltage, anything under 12.5V and they start to display odd things, first to flash up usually is trac/abs/stability at startup (this goes away once volts flow back to the battery....)

The U1135 as SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Ignition Switch / Starter...maybe look at the ignition switch wiring if it comes up again...

Hope this helps

Hi Sean,
I also just had the same thing happen to me...Electrical Fault message came and went. In the past 6 weeks I have blown through three fuses on my lighters. Do you think this is related?

It would help if you provide the year and model of your car. Do you mean that you use the lighter and it blows a fuse?

Sorry....I own a 2000 XJ8 VDP

The fuse doesn't blow when I connect my cell phone charger at the moment I plug it in. I have gone through 3 fuses in 6 weeks. I use the lighter for charging frequently.

I'm no expert on the subject of cell phones, but I don't see the charger drawing enough current to blow the fuse without going up in smoke, which leads me to suspect the plug somehow shorting occasionally in the socket. Do you have a GPS that you can plug in and see how that behaves? Also check the charger plug for any evidence of a burn on the metal surfaces.
