I have documentation of a blow by test carried out by a main dealer, recommending an engine replacement under warrenty. In the quite comprehensive paperwork I received with the car I can't find any other reference to suggest the engine was actually changed.

The Engine number location, if I am looking in the correct place, doesn't make sense to me from what I have read on the web...

I have the numbers roughly in these positions:

980116 E0933

2222222

One of the '2's was stamped over to a '2' from a 'dotted' '1'...hope thsi makes sense.

So, do these numbers look right? What do they mean as they don't seem to follow what I was expecting to see? am I looking in the right place ( left hand back of cylinders, on the block, between cooling pipes towards the front of the engine but in the valley where the inlet manifold is - really hard to get at, used a boroscope on a laptop to see it..

I hope I am looking in the wrong place....

I called the dealership today, the service advisor confirmed that the engine was replaced in 2003. I have docs that show the original engine was a 97, the replacement was a 98, in 2003...I am guessing the E in the E0933 is Exchange..? The dealership is sending me the service history in the post. How good is that.... Allan
