Default Engine replacement

Hello Community,

Can anbody tell me what engine replacement could I use for a european Jaguar 4.0L XJR X308 ?

Can I use an engine from another X308 vintage between 1998-2003 ?
Can I use an engine from an XKR (with a XJR 4.0L engine) ?

Would it be a direct replacement ?

Thanxs in advance for your help

Any 4.0 S/C engine from 2000 on will drop in, yours being an AJ27.
the earlier AJ26 has a few different parts that can be reused from the wrecked engine.
Cat's O2 sensors, cam sensors and reluctors, starter ring, throttle etc
You cannot use a normally aspirated engine as they have higher compression ratio and if fitted with end up with melted pistons.
If you wanted to go the more power route, then a 4.2 would be worth considering, I think they were fitted to XKR until 05/6?

There's a couple of threads that guys have done on this engine swap, that will answer most if not all your questions.
Avos is a a good starting point

Hello everybody, I think that I have found an engine for my car. The engine comes from a 2001 XJR (like mine) but the engine was manufactured in may 2000. That means it has Nikasil lining. I have read a lot about the problem...but my theory is that the engine should be good since high sulfure petrol was banned in europe since 2000. However, there is no way to check if the car suffered heating problems.

What are you thoughts on this ? the engine has only 75'000 km's

Thanxs for your feedback

Just a quick FYI,
Friend has half a S/C motor sitting in his garage with Trans attached. Can't remember if the top is bad or the bottom of motor is dead. Anyone interested in mating some motors would be ideal. Located in Midwest if that helps...
